The Colman Lantern Is Positively Man’s Best Friend During a Natural Disaster

Growing up, I did not camp much, but I always fantasied about getting a VW bus and doing a camping road trip across the USA. When I went to college I met a group of friends that shared my dream of camping and road tripping across the USA. I was so happy! The problem was that none of us had any camping gear! We did not have a lot of money back then so we made a list of the basic camping necessities. This list included a tent, a lantern, a sleeping bag, and a stove.

I really think that camping is a great way to commune with nature and it is good for the soul. So I want to encourage others to go camping. I feel that the right camping gear makes camping so much easier; it takes away the stress of camping and allows people to relax and just enjoy the great outdoors. That is why I am blogging about one of my most treasured camping necessities, The Coleman NorthStar Dual Fuel Lantern. It is one of the best Coleman Lanterns I’ve ever owned.

A Camping Lantern is definitely an essential for any camping trip and The Coleman NorthStar Dual Fuel Lantern is the best and the brightest Coleman camping lantern available. I really liked the one mantle design. The mantle is just as bright as two. When at full capacity it burns as bright as a seventy-five watt light bulb and last for seven hours. On low it burns for seven hours. It burns with Coleman fuel or regular gas! How awesome is that!. One time when we ran out of Coleman fuel we actually stiffened gas out of my car because it was too late to go to a gas station, but too early for bed. Actually this lantern can run on non-Coleman fuel because the Coleman fuel is fuel called naphtha (naphtha is low octane petrol without the additives) with a bit of anti-corrosion additive in it. So you can also run your lantern on other naphtha products. These other fuels are called fuel lite, sheltie, and other names.

One of my favorite features of the Coleman Lantern is the battery operated igniter it comes with, which works great! It is an InstaStart ignition actually! This allows for fast, dependable matchless lighting; you will never have to worry about lighting it with matches and shielding it from the wind. Coleman’s InstaStart electronic ignition offers easy, matchless lighting, and lights every time, so there’s no wondering if the propane should, or shouldn’t, be running still. It is so nice not to have to worry about having to get close to the lantern to see where my match tip is and have it blow up in my face.

I like the metal cage around the globe. It makes it much harder to break the globe (and yes, I have kicked it over several times). The mantels are incredibly easy to put on, although the ones that came with the lantern do not have a little rubber piece that the replacements come with. The metal hook / clamp were too loose and when we tried to tighten it just a bit, it broke. However, the replacements fit perfectly as the rubber piece makes them hold their shape until you install them.
